UTM parser FAQ

What does this UTM parser check for?

Paste a URL and it extracts utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, and utm_content, then flags common mistakes: missing required parameters, raw spaces in values, mixed-case values, and duplicate parameters.

Why does case matter in UTM values?

GA4 treats utm values as case-sensitive strings. utm_source=Facebook and utm_source=facebook are recorded as two different sources, which silently splits your traffic reporting. Always use consistent lowercase.

Why does a space in a UTM value matter?

A raw, unencoded space in a query parameter is invalid and browsers or ad platforms may mangle it differently. Use underscores (summer_sale) instead of spaces (summer sale) so the value survives every platform intact.

What happens if a required UTM parameter is missing?

Without utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign, GA4 can't reliably attribute the visit to a specific campaign — the traffic often falls back to a generic 'referral' or 'direct' bucket instead of showing up in your campaign reports.

Does this tool send my URL anywhere?

No. The URL is parsed entirely in your browser using the native URL API — nothing is sent to a server, fetched, or stored.
